Chocolate Coffee Rubbed Steak

Ingredients

  • 2 NY Strip Steaks
  • The Rub:
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Coffee
  • ¼ Teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ¼ Teaspoon Onion Powder
  • ¼ Teaspoon Chili Powder
  • ½ Teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 Teaspoon Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Coconut Sugar
  • 1/8 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • Pinch of Pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons Unsweetened Coconut Flakes, for Garnishing

Directions

  1. Combine the rub ingredients in a medium bowl.
  2. Trim steaks if needed and coat with the rub.
  3. Cover the steaks and let it set for at least an hour in the refrigerator.
  4. Spray a grill pan and preheat over to 400°F.
  5. Cook the steak until it is nice and seared on each side. Turn down heat to medium and continue cooking until it has reached the desired level of done-ness.
  6. Once steak is cooked, transfer to a plate and cover with tinfoil to rest for 5-7 minutes.
  7. Toast the coconut flakes in the oven. 1 to 2 minutes until it is golden.
  8. Top the cooked steak with the toasted coconut for garnish.
